Thanksgiving and Christmas All In One

This sign always makes me laugh
every time we drive by it.

It's a sign
that's in our town.
It always makes me think of
Thanksgiving and Christmas
all in one hit.

But tonight, as Thanksgiving is coming
to a close,
this sign makes me
think of "Caution" and
"Slow down"
before Christmas skips over Thanksgiving.

Fall Wreath

I've had this wreath for a long time.

Each year I bring it out to hang on the front door
and each year I don't.
It has this ugly green plastic
you would see every time from the side
when opening the door.

So I grabbed some ribbon.

I turned the wreath over
and wrapped the ribbon around the
wreath to hide the gross green plastic.

It turned out pretty good,
if I say so myself.

Love it on the front door and
no more green plastic from the side.

But now I can't close the screen door
because the wreath is too thick.
Bummer!
Looks like this wreath is getting
packed up again.

Pumpkin Pie Please And Hold The Crust!

I love pumpkin pie.
So I made a pumpkin pie,
but I had extra filling left
that would not fit in the pie crust
without overflowing.

So I put the extra pie filling
in some ramekins
and baked them in a hot water bath.

They came out great.
Just like pumpkin pie without
the soggy yucky bottom crust.
Top it with some whip cream
and you have a prefect breakfast...
No, I mean dessert, you have the perfect dessert.

I can neither confirm,
or deny if that picture was taken
in the morning,
but that could explain the dark lighting.

My Late Halloween Post

Yes, I know Halloween is over,
and it's been over for a while.

This year I tried really hard to talk the kids
into skipping Halloween.

I promised to get them their
favorite candy and we would
watch a movie and pretend that
we were not home.

Somehow three days before Halloween
they turned against me.

So....
We got some candy and got out the fog machine...
And the kids had fun handy out the candy.

The day before Middlest did
"Trick or Treat for Education"
with her friends
to earn money for her Washington trip.
They were the Three Blind Mice.

Bonus blast from the past...
Fall picture of Oldest and Middlest

An even older picture of Oldest and Middlest,
before Youngest was even born.
Look close and you will see that Middlest
is playing with scissors I left on the steps.

Hey, at least she is not running with them.

Store Cards And What To Do

What do you do with all the store reward cards?

I have seen helpful tip articles about this.

I have seen blogs post about this.

I have seen it on Pinterest.

I have been doing this for a long time

but it seems just lately people have been taking notice of this.

I have been getting a lot of comments on this.

They all say "What a great idea!"

These are not charge cards, these are the reward cards stores offer

for discounts and they would not fit in my wallet anymore.

So I took a paper punch and put a hole in the upper

right hand of the card.  Careful not to punch a hole in the scan bar on the back.

Then I put them on a key ring in alphabetic order.

I keep it in the side pocket of my purse

for easy access.

Fall

Yesterday was the first day of Fall,

and it was BEAUTIFUL!

I love Fall.

I love the crisp air and the beautiful colors.

It makes me want to take a scenic drive in the county

Image from Google

Fall makes me want to pull on my favorite sweater and jeans,

slip on some leather boots and take a walk in the leaves,

and hear them crunch under my steps.

Image from Pinterest

Fall makes me want to put away the "summer"

and bring out the "fall" in the house.

Image from Pottery Barn

Fall makes me want to gather the family,

a plaid blanket and have a picnic outside.

Maybe with some hot cider or hot chocolate.

I suggest you do the same

and have a blessed and thankful Fall.

Mason Jars

It's no secret that I love mason jars.
Some of those jars can be pretty dirty and sometimes
it seems that you will never get them cleaned.
So here are some things I do to help.

If after cleaning the jar and it seems cloudy,
soak inside or outside of jar in vinegar, depending on where it's cloudy.

If you still have some cloudiness or rust, like around the rim...

Then, I use a "magic eraser" to do the final cleaning.
Magic eraser does wonders for this.
It's non-abrasive and the edge of the eraser can
get in the nooks of the rim.
Wiping the rust and whatever right away.

P.S.  I cut my magic erasers in thirds.
This makes the box last longer.

Also,  I changed some settings on the comments, so give it another try if you want to comment. Now, you shouldn't have to sign in as "member to comment.

Labor Day Weekend Football Kickoff Lifelight

Here's to long weekends,
season's first kickoff, and
Lifelight.

We enjoyed watching the first game of the season.
We also started a project that we have been
needing to do this weekend.
We did not get it all done
so the rest will have to wait for next weekend.
Then maybe I will share.

Oldest and Middlest went to Lifelight and had a great time.
For those that do not know,
Lifelight is Christian music festival located in South Dakota.
It started in 1998 on a church lawn and has grown
into something big.

They left at 5:30 a.m.
They travel with a group  from church and they know some friends that get there the day before.
One of their friends have grandparents that lives there and they let them sleep in their basement.
They come home pretty tired but always glad they got the chance to go.
They come home with signed t-shirts, signed posters, and cd's, probably signed too.
They come home excited and very talkative until they crash.
Poor Oldest, she also had cross country practice tonight.

What did you do for your long weekend?
Whatever you did, I hoped it was a good one.

View from the Window

My husband was gone this last week for a conference.

The first day he got there, he sent me a picture.

It said ...

"Crappy view from my room"

Ahhhhh!!!

I'm pretty sure that he heard my scream from here.

You see, we don't live near an Ikea.

I think this one is the closest Ikea to us
and it's about 10 hours away.

So glad to have Hubby home.
Plus, he came home with gifts for me from Ikea.

Thanks Honey : )

Hope You Had a Great 4th of July

I hope you had a great 4th of July.  We did.  It was small and relaxed.  We invited a good friend and kids over, since her hubby had to work the evening of the 4th.  We had good food, lots of fun and still plenty of fireworks.

Here the kids are taking time from lighting daytime fireworks to pose for the camera.

They had a lot of fun.  We all had a lot of fun.

Bed Made for My Bird Man

Soooo,

I saw this picture today...
{Bird Nest Bed by O*GE, Creative Group}

I immediately thought of Youngest.

He loves his birds.

Angry Birds.  Definitely!

Stuffed chirping birds.  Yuuup!

He's little mob like mentality
even forces us to have numerous birdhouse
and feeders outside.

Then I was walking through the house
and saw
this..

and I realize,

he already has a nest!
Plus, he saved us tons of money.

I Would Like To Introduce You To....

I would like to introduce you to

Grandma, Grandpa and Baby Bear.

Here is Grandma.

She is pretty, delicate and needs to be handled with care.

I love her.

I got her at a flea market. She was a little pricey but when
I picked her up to check the marking on her bottom,  wink
the dealer dropped the price considerably without me asking.
A little birdie told me that if I didn't take it she would.
SOLD! To me. Sorry birdie.
I am so glad Grandma came home to live with me.

When I first brought her home she didn't have a name but soon we started
calling her Grandma because the kids needed a little reminder that this was no regular dish and
I wanted them to be careful with it.  So I told them to treat the platter as if it were Grandma.
The name just stuck.

This is Grandpa.

Grandpa is an old Pampered Chef glazed stone.

He likes to go grilling with Hubby, A LOT.
He is stronger, heavy and thicker then Grandma. No offense to the real Grandpa.
He goes to the grill, the oven, the table, and then the dishwasher with ease.

I love him too.

 This is Baby Bear

and he is just right!

He is smaller but just as strong as Grandpa.
He is prefect and goes in the dishwasher too.
I originally got him for his size and he had the look of ironstone.

I love him also.

Oh and just so you know

Grandma is a bath lady!
No dishwasher for her.
With a little bit of Dawn bubbles she is like a new lady.

And the kids really hate it when you tell them
that it's time to give Grandma her bath.
giggle

Youngest Valentine Holder

I know Valentine's Day is over

but is cute and makes me laugh.

Youngest made this at school to hold

all his valentines.

Sorry it is on it's side

So let me explain what is going on here.

The four hearts on the side represent the four Houses of Hogworths. Yup. Harry Potter.
There is a black ninga on the bottom cause of course you need a ninga to fight off unwanted valentines right?
On the right side (or top of this picture) is a yellow lego block.
On the left (or bottom) is a M and a backwards L (don't know why the L is backwards)
for Mario & Luigi.
In the center is a H for Hogworths.
And here is the part that makes me smile the most.
It says "Can't catch me".
The first thing thought was like in the Gingerbread Man
"You can't catch me cause I'm the Gingerbread Man"
Maybe Youngest was the Ninga Man running away from all those little girls and their vanlentines!

Milk Glass with Oranges

This is my

Milk glass.

I have a pair of
these.

Flower vase?

Candy dish?

Compote?
Whatever that is?

These hold my little oranges.

Cuties.

And when I see

them in the kitchen

filled full with those little oranges,

it makes me smile.
